Inauguration Ceremony - 9.9 MW CHP Power Plant

Biomass CHP Power Plant Kamphaeng Phet, Thailand
After a challenging project execution period during COVID times in which all involved parties worked hard together; the official opening ceremony of the 9.9 MW "Biomass Cogeneration Power Plant" was held at Ajinomoto‘s factory in Kamphaeng Phet, Thailand on September 19, 2022.
Ajinomoto is a Japanese conglomerate in the food industry and has realized this project with LAWI technology as an exemplary "Greenest Factory" of the Ajinomoto Group of companies in order to meet the group’s commitment to reduce it's environmental impact by 50% in 2030 and to become carbon neutral by 2050.
The multi-fuel designed biomass co-generation power plant uses rice husk as main fuel. After rice is harvested and processed, a large amount of biomass waste is generated. Ajinomoto takes advantage of this by purchasing rice husks from farmers in the area, where large amounts of these husks would otherwise go unused.
The total capital investment for this project, which generates process steam and electricity, is about USD 42,000,000 and has a generator capacity of 9.9 MWel, a firing capacity of 75.5 MWth and a steam boiler design of 85 tph BMCR.
LAWI has been selected as the technology partner for the design, engineering and procurement (EP) of the LAWI EtaPlant® boiler island and the overall power plant control system (DCS). The heart of the LAWI EtaPlant® is the highly efficient adiabatic LAWI EtaComb® combustion system with four independently controllable moving grate lanes and recirculation gas system.
Even after the plants’ performance test has successfully demonstrated the operational capability in accordance to the design figures, LAWI continuously accompanies and consults the operation team and owner to assure that the plant and efficiently operated and the Kamphaeng Phet factory of Ajinomoto is reliably supplied by green energy.
